Quit Smoking This Stoptober
Stoptober is almost here again and that means that many of you will be looking to finally quit smoking and end your habit.
You already know that continuing to smoke is a bad idea. For perhaps a few puffs that you might actually enjoy a day (if you even enjoy any of them), you gamble with your health, life expectancy and your looks. Many smokers operate in denial, only getting around to quitting smoking once it has already devastated their health. Many others recognise how absurd and disgusting a habit it is way before that and take action to quit.
No matter how long you have been smoking, or how many you smoke a day, the best time to quit will always be now. For the many hundreds of smokers I’ve helped to quit, health is always one of the main motivators. Is that next fag really worth the cumulative impact on your health and, in all likelihood, the days, months and years you will never share with your loved ones?
For others they are fed up of feeling controlled by cigarettes. There’s the going outside to light up, the anti social-ness, the being part of a dwindling crowd huddled outside even on the coldest day just to draw on their fag. I’ve helped people who are just embarrassed by their habit and who recognise that there is nothing pleasant, or necessary, about it. And, whilst not normally the main reason to quit, there is the saving of thousands of pounds a year that you could certainly put to much better use.
Smoking works on pattern and habit. You smoke in the same situations where you always smoke, like first thing, on a break, after eating, with a drink and last thing. It becomes part of your routine and your brain has learnt to expect it to happen. You do it on autopilot, probably while doing or thinking about something else the whole time. And, of course, you habitually don’t smoke, and may not even think about it, in situations where you have never smoked.
Every smoker can quit, can change their association with nicotine and can break the habit or any thoughts that cigarettes get you anything. This Stoptober, hypnotherapy, along with the right strategies and mindset, can help you to quit smoking for good.
Quit The Habit
Stoptober is all about helping you to quit smoking for twenty eight days because this increases your chances of stopping for good.
Most smokers I help probably have tried quitting multiple times before. Some smokers can seemingly just decide to stop and go on without cigarettes relatively easily. For most though, it will have been all about willpower, endurance, patches, vapes, tablets or a whole cacophony of these things. You may have stopped for a few days, a few weeks or even months, yet the habit creeps back in and you find yourself back at the mercy of cigarettes. Often, alcohol or the thought of it being okay to just have one cigarette, is the catalyst for becoming a habitual smoker again.
Nicotine tricks your brain into thinking it is something that you need. The reward pathways fire up and your brain takes a snapshot of what is going on around you. Anytime you are in a situation that matches this snapshot you find yourself lighting up, or wanting to light up. Your habit gets linked to the environment or situation. The same association can develop in response to emotions if you regularly smoke to deal with stress, annoyance or frustration.
Recently I helped a smoker who was smoking thirty roll ups a day when I first met her. She’d been doing this for over twenty years and was spending close to six thousand pounds a year to do something she thought was disgusting and that she didn’t want others to see her doing. Another smoker who successfully quit could go all day at work without smoking but made up for it at home by chain smoking in the evenings. And there have been those who every two hours from getting up to going to bed, routinely smoke like clockwork.
You know smoking is not a good choice yet you know you need some help to quit. Through hypnotherapy and taking structured, progressive steps outside sessions, you can decide that enough is enough and find your freedom from fags.

Once upon a time, smoking was seen as cool and even as something beneficial to health. We know that is all nonsense. There is nothing cool about puffing away your health, getting short of breath and waiting for the ‘smokers cough’ to start. And there is nothing pleasant for those around you who get to inhale your smoke and smell it on you. You could rely on vaping, patches or tablets to support quitting, yet even if these work, you still leave yourself dependent on something else. Aids help some people but they still leave you unable to be in control over your own routines and behaviours.
So this Stoptober, hypnotherapy may be the solution you need to help you quit smoking for good. You can interrupt the smoking habit and purposefully change what you do and how you do it. There are only positives to quitting. You find yourself feeling good because you are healthier, in control and enjoying being a non smoker. You get to make smoking something that you used to do, a thing from the past, something that makes no sense to even think about ever doing again. You get to break the habit and feel good as a non-smoker.
