Social Anxiety Hypnotherapy in Ely – Real Client Review
Social Anxiety Hypnotherapy in Ely – Real Client Case Study
Struggling with Social Anxiety and Overthinking?
If you struggle with social anxiety, it can often feel like you’re stuck overthinking, worrying about what others think, or avoiding situations altogether.
It can affect your confidence, your work, and even simple everyday interactions – and it’s not always obvious how to change it.
In this real client case study, Nick shares how social anxiety was affecting him, and how things began to shift with hypnotherapy.
Quick Summary
Client: Nick
Issue: Social anxiety, overthinking, low confidence
What changed:
– Felt calmer in social situations
– Less overthinking and worry
– Increased confidence
– More comfortable being himself
(See full video below)
The Starting Point
Before sessions, social situations often felt difficult.
They described:
- worrying about how they came across
- overthinking interactions afterwards
- feeling self-conscious around others
- finding it hard to fully relax socially
Even everyday situations could feel draining.
With social anxiety, avoidance starts to become an appealing option even though it keeps the same anxiety pattern running.
This is something many people experience, and you can read more about it here:
Why do I care so much what people think
The Pattern Behind Social Anxiety
Social anxiety is rarely about the situation itself.
It’s usually linked to patterns such as:
- focusing inward on how you appear
- analysing what you’re saying
- anticipating how others might respond
- worrying too much what others are thinking
- running worst case scenarios and catastrophising
This can create a cycle of overthinking and anxiety.
This is explained further here:
How to stop overthinking in social situations
The Approach
Rather than trying to ‘force confidence’, or fake it, the focus was on:
- changing how attention was directed in social situations
- reducing the habit of analysing and overthinking
- allowing responses to feel more natural
- learning to feel comfortable in your own skin
- recognising others are more occupied with their own thoughts
This wasn’t about becoming a different person.
It was about feeling more comfortable being yourself.
The Turning Point
Through the hypnotherapy sessions, things began to shift.
Instead of constantly monitoring themselves, they found they were able to:
- stay more present in conversations
- think less about how they were coming across
- genuinely look forward to social situations more
- feel more relaxed around others
- enjoy time with others more
The experience became more natural.
The Result
They described feeling:
- calmer in social situations
- less self-conscious
- more able to be themselves
- less caught up in overthinking
One of the biggest changes was not replaying conversations afterwards.
Watch Their Experience
In this video, they describe how things changed and what they noticed as the sessions progressed.

What Changed for This Client
As Nick explains, the changes weren’t instant, but they built steadily:
– Situations that used to feel overwhelming became manageable
– Confidence improved naturally rather than being forced
– Overthinking reduced
– He felt more comfortable around other people
This is often how progress with anxiety works – gradual, but meaningful.
Why This Matters
Many people with social anxiety already know what they ‘should’ do.
But when the underlying pattern doesn’t change, it can feel like you’re stuck repeating the same experience.
Even if a social situation goes well, the same pattern of anxiety and overthinking can reoccur the next time.
When that pattern shifts, relaxing and being yourself in social situations become much easier.
This can also apply to people who feel more naturally introverted, which you can read about here:
Introverts and anxiety
A Local Perspective
In my work as an anxiety therapist in Ely, this is something I see regularly.
When the focus moves away from overthinking and self-monitoring, people often find they can relax more and feel more confident without forcing it.
As someone who used to struggle with social anxiety, I know how freeing that can feel.

“So I went to see Dan probably, I don’t know, a year and a half ago, I guess, now.
I was sort of suffering with social anxiety, worried about what other people thought about me. And it was kind of impacting my life a little bit too much. I felt I really needed to do something about it, but I wasn’t sure, you know, which angle to go down. I opted for hypnotherapy.
So went to see Dan, had an initial conversation, went into the first session. Dan kind of immediately gave me some tools that I could use that kind of helped to manage the anxiety when it happened. And then of course we moved into the hypnotherapy itself. And I found that was quite interesting actually. It didn’t kind of, the changes crept up on me. I almost didn’t notice them. And then I was kind of reflecting on things I’d been doing that I knew that previously I would have found difficult. And I didn’t, you know, things changed quite significantly and I felt a lot more kind of confident and less anxious.
And so, you know for me, the process really worked.
I think, you know, Dan is a really good character to work with. He’s approachable. He’s understanding. He’s kind. So I think, you know, if you’re suffering from those sorts of things, I’d certainly recommend going to see Dan, see if he can help you.”
