Weight Loss Strategies – Hypnotherapy in Ely and Newmarket
The weight loss strategies that you consistently adopt will determine whether you achieve your weight goals or whether you struggle to lose weight and keep it off.
For many people even the thought of yet another weight loss attempt can feel pretty depressing and defeating. If you’ve lost in the past and then put it all back on, then the idea of doing it all over again after all that wasted previous effort can sap all of your motivation and persistence. You want to lose wight yet you don’t want to have to deprive yourself. You may enjoy food and worry about everything to do with eating becoming boring and pleasure-less. You know what you should be eating and what you should be doing yet somehow you can’t get going or make it a seamless part of your healthy, slim, lifestyle.
Sadly, the fact remains that despite more and more weight loss approaches and diets being available, more people are overweight and the majority of people attempting weight loss struggle to implement effective and workable weight loss strategies for the achievement and maintenance of long-term weight loss.
However, no matter where you are right now with your weight, or what you may have tried before, it is possible to make positive, sustainable changes. You can change your mindset and relationship with food. And, just like my other clients, you can take control over your eating habits, feel healthier and happier and consistently make progress towards being the size, shape and weight that you desire to be.
Weight Loss And Keeping It Off
Research has already highlighted the key strategies of those who lose weight and keep it off. There tend to be certain behavioural and psychological strategies that these weight loss maintainers are using that support them in keeping the weight off over time. Just as many of my clients tell me that they know what they should be eating, they just struggle to implement it consistently, most of these factors are also things you probably already know. The good new is that the weight loss strategies of hypnotherapy can help you to successfully implement and make habitual the thoughts, feelings and behaviours around your relationship with food that can help you to achieve your goals.
People who lose weight and keep it off tend to choose lower calorie foods, keep lower calorie foods accessible, and they eat more servings of fruits and vegetables. Long term weight loss maintainers develop strong habits for making healthy eating choices. They also tend to monitor what they are eating and their weight to ensure they have the focus and self-accountability to quickly and easily adjust what they are doing so they stay on track.
If they do slip and put weight back on, as well as identifying it early from their monitoring, they draw upon coping strategies to feed off past successes and to encourage themselves to stay positive. This can counter the age old tendency of someone trying to lose weight who notices an upward fluctuation in their weight and then quits what they are doing and then goes on an eating binge or who becomes overly self critical (and, of course, everyone’s weight can and does fluctuate so you need to be able to calmly handle this if you want to stay on track with your eating).
These are all the sort of behavioural and psychological strategies and habits that I help my hypnotherapy clients to successfully learn, adopt and consistently repeat. You start to become in control over food and over your eating habits in ways that allow you to enjoy eating the right amount and becoming healthier and happier. You can improve your relationship with food, achieve your weight loss goals and then draw upon your own capability to keep things where you want them.
And if you want to know more about weight loss through hypnotherapy then there’s also a load more information, strategies and advice in these previous articles:
Weight Loss Strategies
If you are feeling desperate to lose weight then you may try all sorts of fad diets and programs in the hope that this one will THE thing that will help you to lose weight and keep it off. Some diets have more scientific evidence to support them than others, some require all sorts of regimes, restrictions and rules, and some are probably just plain bad for your long term health.
Being overweight or obese comes with a host of increased negative health risks. Being healthier is probably one of the main reasons that people are motivated to lose weight and is nearly always a factor in those I work with during hypnotherapy sessions. You want to be as healthy as you can be into the future and to be active, and around, long into the future to enjoy time with your loved ones.
The American Heart Association have a list of eight factors that are key measures for improving and maintaining cardiovascular health. As they state, better cardiovascular health helps lower your risk for heart disease, stroke and other major health problems (Life’s Essential 8). And a recent study has assessed differences in adherence to these eight factors in those who have, or haven’t, achieved clinically significant weight loss (Hill, Cubellis, Wexler, Taylor and Spees, 2023),
Overall, they found that greater adherence to the Life’s Essential Eight recommendations was observed amongst those who successfully achieved clinically significant weight loss (although overall compliance with the factors was low). As you might expect, greater levels of physical activity and eating a healthy diet supported successful weight loss and management, suggesting that following the eight recommendations can benefit you in achieving your weight loss goals. Improved cardiovascular health and weight loss unsurprisingly fit together nicely.
So what are the Life’s Essential Eight health behaviours and factors?
- Eat Better: Work towards an overall healthy eating pattern that includes whole foods, lots of fruits and vegetables, lean protein, nuts and seeds.
- Be More Active: aim for 150 minutes of moderate physical activity or 75 minutes of vigorous physical activity per week.
- Quit Tobacco: stop smoking or vaping inhaled tobacco products.
- Get Healthy Sleep: most adults need 7-9 hours a night.
- Manage Your Weight.
- Control Cholesterol.
- Manage Blood Sugar.
- Manage Blood Pressure.
These are all factors and behaviours that support your health. Certainly the first four are things that hypnotherapy can help you with directly and effectively. Hypnotherapy can help you with developing control over your eating habits, motivation for exercise, stopping smoking and getting better sleep. Through a range of behavioural and psychological approaches and strategies each of these can be effectively addressed.
As the research shows, adopting and following these principles serves as a foundation for reducing cardiovascular disease risk while promoting safe weight management strategies. You already have your weight loss goals and probably have a good idea of what you need to be doing. Hypnotherapy and the other psychological strategies and approaches I teach my clients are the mechanisms that can help you get where you want to be and then stay there.
