Hypnotherapy and Depression – Hypnotherapy in Ely and Newmarket
Recently I’ve been working with a large number of clients who suffer with depression. Perhaps the main thing they had in common was how long they had felt that way and suffered with their depression.
Because we can never know exactly what is going on in someone else’s head, it can be quite common for people with depression to do a good job of keeping it from those close to them – on the outside they can come across as doing fine yet inside they are struggling.
According to research (1), people with even mild mental illnesses are more likely to die early – even once coping mechanisms like smoking and drinking had been taken into account.
And with the stretched resources of the NHS you are most likely to be offered anti- depressants rather than getting support to tackle the underlying issues that stop you feeling better. The NHS in England spent more than £270m on antidepressants last year – a massive 23% increase on 2010 (2).
The people I help with hypnotherapy for depression generally tell me:
- They feel emotions such anger, sadness and guilt
- They struggle to cope and can’t see much of a future
- They may have experienced traumatic events that still live with them
- They may carry regrets for things they did/didn’t do in the past
- They no longer enjoy the things they used to
- They believe they are in some way unworthy, not good enough or un-loveable
All of these issues can be helped with hypnotherapy, hypnosis and NLP so that you can let go of old emotions and start looking forward to a healthy, happy future.
If you, or someone you know, suffers with depression then the most important thing is to do something – whether it’s visiting your GP, seeking a counsellor or coming to speak with a hypnotherapist.
Here are some other things you can consider:
1) Take time to smile and laugh – even if you don’t feel like it
Find opportunities to smile and laugh – even if you don’t really feel like it. By laughing and smiling it sends a message from your body to your mind to start feeling a little better. Even something as simple as watching your favourite comedy programme can start the process.
2) Move more than you are now
Often when people feel low or depressed that start to slow down their lives and may slump in their chair or walk looking down at their feet. Find 10-15 minutes even if it’s just for a quick walk at lunchtime. If possible get outside and if you can, got to a park or somewhere close to nature.
3) Remember the good times
Take time to remember some of the happier times in your life when you did things you enjoyed doing. Everyone at one time or another has experienced happiness, joy, love and pleasure. Take as long as you need to start remembering that you have had good experiences in your life so you can know that it’s possible to have more in the future. Imagine being back in those times as though you were there again and make them bigger, brighter and crisper in your mind.
Although it may feel as though there is no hope at the moment, with the right help, you can find a way forward that allows you to start feeling better more and more often.
