Four Questions To Ask Your Hypnotherapist

A professional hypnotherapist can literally help you change your life! They can help you ‘reprogramme your mind’ so that you move from being stuck where you are now to thinking, feeling and behaving like you want to.

That’s a pretty awesome thing!

And if you’ve never experienced the power of hypnosis before (or even if you have) you may feel a bit nervous or anxious about what it may entail.

As I read somewhere recently, ‘not all hypnotists are created equal’ so it makes sense as you look for a hypnotherapist to have some ways to filter all those names to ensure you contact someone with the professionalism and skill to help you succeed. So whether you want to end your anxiety, increase your confidence, eliminate a phobia or something different, be sure to make sure you are going to be in safe, professional hands by asking these four questions.

Four Questions to Ensure Professional Hypnotherapy

So with that in mind, here are the four questions you should ask your hypnotherapist and satisfy yourself about BEFORE you invest your time, energy and money (these are exactly the same questions I personally use before I hire any coach, mentor or hypnotist).

1)  Can you meet the hypnotherapist face to face before committing to sessions?

Any professional hypnotherapist should be offering a free initial consultation where you can meet them at their office to talk about the help you are seeking (or face to face by Skype if the travel distance is too great).

In my opinion, a brief phone chat is not sufficient as a substitute for actually meeting in person so you can be sure that you feel comfortable with your hypnotherapist, their location and their general style. Your hypnotherapist can help you make huge, life enhancing changes to end anxiety and panic attacks, increase confidence and more, so you need to be sure you feel as comfortable as possible before you start.

The free consultation should be around 20-30 minutes long to give enough time to talk through the issues, find out about hypnosis and how your hypnotist works and so you have plenty of time to ask questions.

2) Are they insured?

Whilst it is unlikely to ever be needed, an ethical hypnotherapist will have full professional insurance. If they do not then let that be a HUGE alarm bell that either they are not sufficiently qualified to have insurance accepted or they are just doing some ad hoc sessions as a bolt on to their usual day job and so are avoiding the cost (the cost of keeping you and them safe).

3) Will they teach you skills and strategies you can actually use yourself?

Whilst you are going through the change process with hypnosis sessions you NEED to have skills, strategies and techniques that you can apply to fully benefit from the sessions (after all, life is still happening outside your hypnotherapy sessions). You will want to know how you can keep the momentum and keep on track with feeling healthier, happier and more confident.

There are some therapists (hypnotherapists and other types of therapist) who prefer to keep all the secret to themselves and who shroud their help in some sort of cloak of mystery. Whether this is an ego thing or an attempt to keep you in the dark so that you are more likely to need their help again, I don’t know!

Because by learning how to direct your thoughts and feel in control this should mean fewer sessions with your hypnotherapist to get the result you want, and also it gives you the tools you need to stay on track even further into the future.

4) Can The hypnotherapist demonstrate real client success stories?

I’ve visited websites for all sorts of services in the past where there is no mention of whether any paying customers have been happy with the work carried out or the result achieved. In the days when every product on Amazon has reviews (probably the most read part of their site), there is NO EXCUSE for any professional hypnotherapist to avoid publishing real success stories.

Some hypnotherapists will claim it is ‘unethical’ to publish testimonials, however, I massively disagree. If a client does not agree to publication or does not want to submit one then it would be unethical to go ahead regardless. Yet if someone is happy with the result and service they should be well within their rights to tell others. In fact, I would go so far as to say it is unethical to expect someone to invest in a hypnotherapy service WITHOUT providing some evidence that the service gets high quality results.

If you wouldn’t buy a book or CD off a website without reading reviews, why should you trust your mental and emotional health to someone who has no evidence of ever helping a client?

Always  Ask The Hypnotherapist First

And remember, you should be able to ask your hypnotherapist ANY and ALL questions you would like to have answered BEFORE you begin hypnotherapy.
