Challenging Anxious Thoughts Hypnotherapy
If you have a tendency for your mind to fill with anxious worst case scenarios, your imagination runs away with itself, start catastrophising, overthinking things and the whole time experiencing more and more anxiety and feeling more and more uncomfortable, then one way to start challenging the thoughts in your own mind, to dispute them, to kind of undermine them, is to ask yourself: as you think of that thing that’s in your mind, is what you’re thinking fact, is it an accurate account of reality, is it based on solid evidence? Or are you just making stuff up inside of your head?
And because often our thoughts aren’t facts, they’re not an accurate account of reality, they’re just habitual ways of thinking anxious thinking patterns, old perceptions. So start to undermine it because if it’s not based on anything, then it is just your imagination. If it’s just your imagination then start to undermine it by just recognising that you’re making it up in your mind. And if you’re making it up then start to kind of change it. Change what you’re imagining. Use your imagination, cultivate it, orchestrate it and start imagining the kind of things going better or handling things or things going well.
Because if you’re making it up then you may as well make up something that’s just much more helpful, that allows you to feel better and empowered and to get on with life in a way that will please you, calmly confidently and capably.
