My Experience With Public Speaking Anxiety

When I used to struggle with anxiety and low confidence, public speaking and being the centre of attention felt uncomfortable.

I worried about saying the wrong thing, looking nervous, being judged or making a mistake in front of other people. Sometimes I would avoid situations altogether or spend far too much time overthinking them beforehand.

One of the biggest things I eventually learned was that other people notice far less than we imagine. They are usually much more focused on themselves than analysing us.

This is something I now regularly discuss with clients experiencing public speaking anxiety. Often the problem is not a lack of ability, knowledge or preparation. Instead, anxiety creates a fear of judgement that makes speaking feel far more threatening than it really is.
