Problems and Challenges – Hypnotherapy in Ely Vlog
Your mindset and attitude when faced with problems and challenges will decide whether you experience anxiety, dread and worry, or whether you find the strength and resilience you need to tackle it. Problems and challenges are an inevitable but (in most cases) they can have a positive side that helps you to learn, engage your mind and get better at handling things. You can watch the video here:
Problems and Challenges:
Hello. It’s Dan here. I hope you’re good today. Today I just want to say a few words about dealing with problems and challenges. They’re an inevitable part of life, they happen to all of us, they arise, we have to deal with them, find a way to get through them. Yet how we perceive those things, our kind of thinking around when problems and challenges arise, affects whether we find them negative or stressful, or they cause anxiety, or we feel bad when they happen, or we struggle to deal with those things and they dominate our mind, they take over and they impact on us negatively in that way.
And it’s something I was talking to a client about recently. That particular client had quite challenging, difficult tasks do at work and his perception led to him feeling stressed and anxious both when those things happened, but also the possibility that they may arise, that there may be those difficult time-consuming things that would involve time, stress, and thinking, and have a knock-on impact onto other things and he might get pestered by other people about how long he was taking. And they were quite challenging tasks in and of themselves yet his mindset, his thinking around it, the kind of scenarios he was coming up with, like I say, working outside work led to anxiety, stress and feeling bad.
Let’s remember, challenges will arise, but they’re inevitable, they’re going to happen, they happen to all of us in many areas of our life, we all think we want a nice straight-forward life but in fact, as I was saying to this client, if you went to work every day and he was just doing the same routine, mundane task day after day, hour after hour, week after week, year after year, where’s the satisfaction in that. Where’s living and engaging your mind and being actively involved in that.
Because the thing about challenges and problems is, as much as we may think that we don’t want them, we think problems are problems, it means that you have to think, you have to draw upon resilience, you have to find coping strategies, you have to find a way through it, you learn from those things so they’re less likely to happen in the future, you get better at dealing with them, they stretch us, they make us psychologically stronger and more resilient to stuff. Who’d want to go to that job where it’s just mundane, same thing all the time. We want challenges, we want to engage, we want to learn things, we want to have to work things out, our minds are designed to learn to do those things, so if we start to think of problems and challenges as things that enrich us, that can help us grow, that make us better, we just get better at doing stuff, then it changes your whole outlook on those things, rather than dread and worry and fear and anxiety around challenges and problems, before they arise, when they do arise, when you’re in the midst of them.
If you can keep that in mind, you get better as a person, you think more clearly, you find solutions, you find the strength and robustness. In the future, that means you’re even better at stuff, you learn new skills, new ways of dealing with stuff, whether that’s skills you need to learn, people you need to call upon, conversations you need to have, whether it’s just investing that time or whether it’s just recognising intrinsically problems, challenges in and of themselves make you stronger, make you better, make you think more clearly, allow you to use all your capabilities and, in that way they’re almost a positive thing.
You get better from those things, you get better as a person, you learn your stuff, you can deal with things in the future better. Who wouldn’t want that? Who wouldn’t want their life enriched in that way? I’m not suggesting it’s always easy to do that. It’s going to depend on the nature of the thing obviously but if you can start to adopt that mindset more of the time, then certainly I think you’re going to find your life is enriched and you’ll find mentally you feel in a much better place more of the time. So start taking those challenges and problems, start planning that thinking, start recognising their value and feel good for that, learn from it, get better at it and I think you’ll find your mental wellbeing improves as well. So I’ll leave you with that, and keep that in mind and I will speak to you very, very soon. You take care now.
