Problems and Challenges – Hypnotherapy in Ely and Newmarket
If there is one thing that is certain in life (apart form death and taxes…), it’s that you will inevitably encounter challenges and problems along the way. Sometimes life can seem relatively smooth sailing but there will always be times when things are more tricky and there are obstacles to be navigated and addressed.
Many people when faced with problems find themselves getting stressed and anxious, and they may try to ignore it or find themselves fearful of dealing with it. Problems become things filled with anxiety, struggle and negativity that we would rather avoid, even though we know such things are bound to arise from time to time.
Your mindset and attitude when faced with problems and challenges will decide whether you experience anxiety, dread and worry, or whether you find the strength and resilience you need to tackle it. Problems and challenges are inevitable but (in most cases) they can have a positive side that helps you to learn, engage your mind and get better at handling things.
Recently I was discussing this with a client who was struggling with anxiety about challenges at work. When faced with difficult jobs (or even the possibility of them) he would become very anxious and he would find himself overthinking about what may happen. Yet as we discussed, some more challenging tasks in his type of work were inevitable, so starting to treat these problems as challenges was something he started to adopt as his mindset.
Rather than worry how long they might take to complete, what his boss might think or whether he could cope (he always had), he started to think about how dull his work would be without any challenge, such as if he went in everyday and did the same small, straightforward, repetitive task day in day out, week in week out. That is a life without challenge and whilst he thought that’s what he wanted, the idea of a routine, unfulfilling work life didn’t exactly excite him! Instead he started to think of those difficult jobs as challenges that stimulated his brain and got him thinking, he began to develop a mindset where difficult tasks were engaging. They made him better at finding solutions and better in his ability to cope with challenges he faced. Instead of being something to avoid and catastrophise over, the more challenging a task, the better he got in dealing with things.
I talk more about problems and challenges in this video (click on the image):
As you begin to treat problems as things to engage with and as challenges you can overcome, you start to get better at dealing with them and finding solutions. You get better at addressing challenges that come your way without anxiety and stress, and you get better at putting your mind to solving them and taking constructive action. You just get better at dealing with ‘stuff.’
