Latest Video – Hypnotherapy Treatment For Anxiety – How Effective Is It?
In a recent article, I discussed the very latest research that has been recently published about the how effective hypnotherapy is as a treatment for anxiety issues. You can have a read of that article here if you haven’t read it yet: The Effectiveness of Hypnotherapy as a Treatment for Anxiety.
The research looked into the overall effectiveness of hypnotherapy as a treatment for anxiety and found some pretty awesome evidence and results.
This particular scientific research is pretty important stuff, especially if you are someone currently struggling with anxiety and looking for an evidence based way to deal with it. As it’s so important in adding to the knowledge based around treatment for anxiety, I also recorded a short video to talk about the findings.
Hypnotherapy As A Treatment For Anxiety

As I mention in the video, some pretty awesome results from the research demonstrating that hypnosis is a highly effective intervention for anxiety.
To put into the words of the researchers, they concluded their analysis by writing:
“The findings of this meta-analysis show that hypnosis is a highly effective intervention for anxiety. Our results indicate the average participant treated with hypnosis achieved more anxiety reduction than about 79% of control participants at the end of active treatment and about 84% of controls at the longest follow-up. The hypnosis interventions evaluated in this meta-analysis appear to be about as effective in alleviating anxiety as CBT, PMR, and psychodynamic psychotherapy and were possibly more effective than mindfulness. Hypnosis produced more anxiety reduction when used in combination with other treatments such as CBT or biofeedback than when employed as a stand-alone intervention”
(Valentine, Keara E., et al. “The Efficacy of Hypnosis as a Treatment for Anxiety: A Meta-analysis.” International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis 67.3 (2019): 336-363).
The results show that hypnotherapy is way up there in terms of effectiveness for treating anxiety with things like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. And as someone who uses Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy approaches with my anxiety clients, the research provides extra evidence of how this approach can support achieving enhanced anxiety reduction (which probably comes as no surprise as we have had evidence for a long time that hypnosis enhances the outcomes achieved from cognitive behavioural therapy).
Whilst I’ve experienced first hand how hypnotherapy can help alleviate anxiety, both for myself and with my hypnotherapy clients, it is great news that the science and evidence is now in place to support what I’ve known for many years: that hypnotherapy is a very effective treatment for anxiety.
