Evening Calmness – Hypnotherapy in Ely and Newmarket
How joyous it is to experience an evening of calmness. The main business of the day is done and it’s time to relax and unwind in some way. And whether you are watching a film, reading a book, pursuing a hobby or chilling out with friends, you can decide what to do, choose whether you engage with others or answer messages and just take some time for yourself.
Or maybe not. Perhaps the busyness and distractions of the day are still running and racing through your mind during the evening. You struggle to let go of the stresses and strains from dealing with people and tasks during the day. Your mind fills with everything you need to do and the kind of obstacles that you wade through each day. Something someone else said or did, an injustice you think you were at the end of, or perhaps a sense of overwhelm and burden from aspects of your life can all keep your mind too noisy. Instead of an evening of mental and physical calmness that allows you to recharge, things niggle at you and lurk in your mind. You overthink through the evening and perhaps even lie there in bed at night churning over stuff as your mind refuses to switch off from the day.
And, of course, holding onto the busyness, stress and events of the day inside your head can make you feel stressed and irritable. It can lead to unhealthy eating or using alcohol to try and hush your thinking and relax your body. It interrupts the very time when you should be happily calm and comfortable, recharging and refreshing yourself for the next day. And it can interfere with getting a good night’s sleep, meaning you get up the next morning feeling tired, defeated and harassed.
So rather than struggling to relax, unwind and enjoy your evening, wouldn’t it be nicer to let go of the emotions, thinking and weight of the day you’ve had? You want to be able to calmly reflect on the day you’ve had and to let go of any negative emotions. You want to feel good about the positives and accomplishments of the day rather than overthinking the problems and challenges. And you definitely want to feel calm and relaxed during the evening so that you can enjoy your time and reset effectively for the next day.
Evening Calmness Hypnosis
For me, the evening is about enjoying some time with the kids, playing the guitar, watching a movie or getting to bed a little earlier so I have time to read (I’m currently working my way through the Erast Fandorin novels which are awesome). How you end your day is as important to your well-being and mental health as how you start you day.
I often talk to clients about their morning routine and how they prime themselves for a positive day. And I get a lot of positive feedback from those who have listened to and used my Morning Calmness Hypnosis download (which you can find here: Morning Calmness Hypnosis). That hypnosis download is designed to help you start your day on a calm footing. You let go of any morning stress and anxiety and start your day feeling and having a calm state of mind and being ready to handle whatever comes your way during the day. You prime your mind to feel calm as you listen and then to take this through the people, places, situations and circumstances that you are going to face during your day. There is also a hypnosis download designed to help you to strengthen your confidence ready for the day ahead.
And I’m now in the process of creating a partner to this morning calmness hypnosis audio.
My Evening Calmness Hypnosis download (available soon!) will help you to end the day feeling calm and letting go of any unwanted thoughts and unnecessary feelings from the events of the day. Rather than overthinking, dwelling and holding onto the stressful emotions of the day, you’ll be able to relax, unwind, clear your mind and let go of any tension or unwanted feelings. You’ll end your day mentally calm and physically relaxed so that you can enjoy the rest of your evening and feel more at peace and calm when you go to bed.
And if you want to start benefiting right away then you can follow these steps to boost your calmness towards the end of your day:
1. Ensuring you are sitting somewhere quiet, take a deep breath and close your eyes. If you know self-hypnosis techniques you could incorporate these here. Start to extend your out breath and say the word ‘relax’ to yourself on every breath out. You could tense and relax each part of your body or tell yourself that each part of your body is relaxing. You could imagine a calm colour or sensation spreading through you or fill your mind with a relaxing sound. You could engage your imagination and imagine being in a remembered or created place of calmness, seeing the sights and hearing the sounds. Or you can draw upon and utilise any other ways that allow you to feel comfortable, calm and relaxed. Your aim here is just to feel as safe, calm and comfortable as you can right now.
2. Start to become aware of your entire body as one, from the top of your head down through your body and into the tips of your toes. Just aim to be aware of your entire body as one right now. You don’t need to try to change anything and you don’t need to try and stop anything from changing. Just notice what you notice, feel what you feel in your body and be aware of your entire body as one, with a sense of contentment.
3. Now, move your awareness to your breathing. Notice the sensations of your breathing. The rise and fall of every breath that happens so automatically. The feeling of your chest expanding, and then relaxing. Notice the sensations anywhere and everywhere caused by your breathing. Just tune in and watch your body breathing. If your mind wanders at any point you can gently bring your awareness back to your breathing.
Tune in and notice the sensations of your breathing as you let your body do the breathing, almost as if you were watching someone else breathing, or a little bird in a tree breathing or like you are watching a perfectly working machine. Imagine that you are breathing in calmness and becoming more calm, balanced and at ease as you breathe out.
4. Now, start to become more comfortably absorbed in the sensations of your body. Become aware aware of the sensations in your arms, in your chest, in your stomach and legs and then into each and every part of your body. You can notice whether each part of your body feels warm or cold or somewhere in between, whether you feel lightness or heaviness or something in between and just be content to notice what you notice as you let your awareness go deeper into your body. And throughout you can bring your awareness back to your breathing, the rise and fall of every breath that happens so automatically.
5. Then begin to gently turn your attention deeper, into your mind and towards your thinking. Bring to mind, remember and recall a time when you’ve felt totally calm, relaxed and comfortable. Imagine drifting back into that moment, like you are there again, seeing what you saw, hearing what you heard and feeling calm, comfortable and at ease. Make it as vivid as you can in your mind and notice all of the colours, details, shades of light and sounds of this place. Just imagine adopting, replicating and magnifying the feelings of calmness as you spend a few moments being back in this time and place that you associate with calmness.
6. Having done that, you can start to think back over the day that has just passed. You can think back on the kind of people, places, situations and events of your day, remembering where you went, the people you encountered, the actions you took and the things you did today. You can reflect upon the thoughts you were thinking through your day, the emotions and feelings you experienced and anything else that was going on inside of you even if others wouldn’t have been aware of those things.
7. Then, as you think back on your day, start to think about the things you’re pleased with and that were good in your day. These are the kind of highlights from your day, moments when you felt happy, positive, accomplished or good in a variety of ways. Enjoy spending a few moments thinking back on the positives form your day and replaying these highlights inside your mind.
8. And then you can start thinking back upon those other aspects of the day, the more challenging moments you encountered and anything that distracted you, agitated you or that led to unwanted busyness inside your mind. And whilst feeling calm and relaxed as a result of the steps you have already taken through this process, even as you review those things, start to imagine letting go and clearing your mind of the busyness of the day. It may be like you are switching away from those things or leaving them for another time, or like your flicking a switch in your mind that lets go of anything unwanted and that lets you feel more calm and relaxed.
9. Now, return your mind to the thoughts and feelings of contentment and comfort and let these spread through your mind and your body. Take a few moments to feel and be mentally calm and physically relaxed, ready to be calm through the rest of your evening. And then, to bring this process to an end, count yourself up form one to five inside your mind, open your eyes and take that calmness into your evening and night.
If you struggle to switch off from the day and that then interrupts the end of your day, then this is a lovely process for letting go and becoming calmer. I’ll let you know when the recording studio hypnosis download version is available. In the meantime I wish you every calmness through your evenings.
