Controlled Breathing For Anxiety
By Dan Regan, Professional Clinical Hypnotherapist
Hello, it’s Dan here. When you feel anxious, your breathing starts to get shallower and faster. When you feel relaxed your breathing is slower and deeper. So, controlled breathing is one of the most effective ways to calm anxious feelings and to put yourself in control of how you feel wherever you are or whoever you’re with.
So, here’s what you need to start practising. You breathe in for a slow inner count of four. Hold your breath for a count of two. And then gently breathe out for a count of six and keep repeating and get those benefits.
It works with how your body works. With a bit of practice you can do wherever you are and whatever’s going on around you. In fact, just do it anyway. Make it a habit. Get really good at it. Have it at the front of your awareness. Cut off anxious feelings before they get going and find yourself feeling more calm, more confident and more in control whatever you’re doing.
